Usher Morgan

Usher Morgan is an award-winning screenwriter, film director, and producer based in New York City. He began his career in the book publishing industry before discovering his passion for filmmaking, transitioning into production and distribution. His early foray into film began with the 2012 documentary The Thought Exchange, starring David Friedman and Lucie Arnaz. This project marked Morgan's first role as a producer, setting the stage for his later ventures in narrative filmmaking.

In 2015, Morgan made his directorial debut with the award-winning short film Prego, a dark comedy that gained recognition at numerous film festivals. Prego helped establish his distinct directorial voice—one that would later define his work in feature films.

Morgan’s first feature-length film, Pickings, premiered to critical acclaim in March 2018 and received a limited theatrical release via AMC Independent. Blending elements of film noir and spaghetti westerns, Pickings showcased Morgan’s signature style, characterized by gritty, stylized visuals and complex, morally ambiguous characters. The film was praised for its bold, unconventional narrative and striking aesthetics, earning Morgan recognition as "a talent to watch" by The Los Angeles Times.

In 2023, Morgan completed his second feature film, Plucked, a dark comedy co-written, co-produced, and co-directed with Katie Vincent. Set to enter the festival circuit in 2025, Plucked continues his exploration of the dark and often surreal aspects of human nature, further cementing his reputation for creating thought-provoking, genre-defying films. He is also in pre-production on his third feature film, Anna’s in the Woods, which is set to hit the festival circuit in 2026.
