Ben Schaechter, the son of Eastern European parents, is a second-generation Holocaust survivor residing in New York City. He navigated a tumultuous childhood shaped by emotionally compromised parents and has lived openly as a member of the LGBTQ community since 1978.
For decades, he planned to complete his memoir, which weaves together his parents’ Holocaust experiences, his own childhood, and his identity as a gay man. Since retiring from a successful career in technology within the financial sector, writing has become his primary focus.
Ben attended Cornell University and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology from NYU’s Stern School of Business, graduating magna cum laude in 1988. His family background inspired a lifelong passion for reading and modern European history, particularly since the age of 13. He has developed extensive knowledge of Germany, the Holocaust, Soviet Russia, Eastern Europe, World War I, and World War II.
